Began as a nourishing herbal soup created for Chinese labourers in 19th-century Nanyang, Bak Kut Teh started as a humble street food, and became one of Malaysia’s most loved comfort dishes.
Slow-simmered with Chinese herbs and spices, it is known for its rich, aromatic broth. Today it comes in both pork and chicken (Chi Kut Teh) variations.
Traditionally enjoyed with rice and fried dough sticks (cha koay), it remains a beloved local classic.
